In Brief – Australian Partner Visa fees and their lengthy process

The partner visa fees increase again yet the lengthy processing time remains unchanged.

The cost of a partnership visa now stands at $6,865.00. It has almost increased 400 per cent in the last five years and this is without factoring the costs of police checks, health checks and immigration agents. Even with the rise in fees, processing times of over a year are not uncommon for partners.

The fees have generated millions of dollars in government revenue but the Australian Productivity Commission states there appears to be no systematic approach to the way visa charges are set.

The Productivity Commission notes that such exorbitant charges risk Australians leaving the country all together in order to be with their overseas partner.
